At a certain stage in life, certain wheels in one's collection become "memory bikes." This Hetchins Experto Crede (Latin for "expert's choice"), introduced around 1950 and known for the ornate scrollwork of its hand-cut lugs, was the favorite of my good friend Ted Wolfe. I think of him every time I ride the Crede down Rocky Hill Road in my hometown. Call them curlicues, spirals, or scrolls, more than a few Hetchins enthusiasts consider the Experto Crede's lugs superior to those found on the rather over-imagined Magnum Bonum. ​
