Talk about beginner's luck--this is the first Schwinn Paramount I found for the collection, over thirty years ago. I bought it from the second owner, who gave me the name and address of the original owner, one Harold Zimpfer. I telephoned Mr. Zimpfer and had a delightful conversation with the former racer. He told me he purchased this Schwinn Paramount Wastyn-made track bicycle, Serial No. A435, in 1937 from Heil Brothers in Buffalo, New York. The price was $75.00. (The Schwinn Paramount would not appear in the catalog until 1938). The bike came with two pairs of wheels--a British pair mounted on the bicycle when I received it, and the original N.O.S. Paramount wheels with original United States Special Racer tires, that had apparently never been mounted on the bike. (I have since mounted the original Paramount wheels and used the British wheels on another bike). The Paramount also came with Mr. Zimpfer's racing shoes and two extra chainrings. Harold loaned me the photo you see below (which I had copied, returning the original to him) taken September, 1940. It shows Harold on his beloved Paramount, holding a trophy representing Ninth Place in the National Fifty Mile Race Championships at Detroit, Michigan.
