Eisuke Miyata (1840-1900) originally manufactured guns for the Imperial Japanese Army and knives for the Navy. In 1890 he offered the first Miyata prototype bicycle, using rifle barrels produced in his factory. Upon Eisuke's death the business converted entirely to the manufacture of bicycles.
"The Mister" Miyata you see here is a classic example of the post-war Japanese roadster or town bike that demands a "sit-up-and-beg" riding position.
Mark Pace of Pace Bicycle Haven in Independence Missouri owns a similar Miyata Mister, and is a fellow member of "The Mister Club." So far, there are only two of us.
My Mister retains all its original components, right down to "The Mister" tires!
