From the superb 2018 book, Japanese Steel: Classic Bicycle Design from Japan, by William Bevington and Scott and Scott Ryder: "By 1987, the term 'lugless construction' had found its way into the Fuji lexicon; classic colors had succumbed to a new found hipness; and, at least for this Fuji Team, top tubes were no longer straight. This was the only 'funny bike' that Fuji ever offered. The window for doing so was a small one--by 1989, the Union Cycliste Internationale no longer sanctioned dual wheel sizes for official record-keeping. They are a blast to ride (in the short term) and a joy to collect."
I have left the Team Fuji you see here just as I acquired it years ago. Some of the components reflect the taste of the previous owner (I am not sure, but the bike may have been originally fitted with the Shimano Sante mini-groupset). This beautiful crackle-finish Fuji is hand made with Ishiwata 019E tubing.
